Way, way, way out West with the Queensland Premier

In December I was lucky enough to be invited to be the feature vocalist for the Queensland Premier’s Regional Christmas Concerts. The program included singalong Christmas carols, the Crack Up Sisters (a comedy whip cracking duo who are really wet your pants funny), the Senior Idol winner and community input from local schools. I was accompanied by Sue Porter and we put in a few jazzy Christmas tunes like cheeky ‘Santa Baby’ and the beautiful ‘Christmas Song’. We performed our first show in Marburg to a huge crowd of mainly Seniors. They loved the concert and we had a ball. Then a week later it was off way out west to Winton. I’ve never been that far west and never in such a small plane! There were a few nervous moments as the plane dipped a couple of times followed by nervous laughter throughout the cabin and echoes of “there’s my breakfast again”, but we arrvied finally … in 45 degree heat!  The concert was delightful and drew a more family audience with lots of kids in toe. It was just wonderful to see how beautiful the Queensland ouback is and our drive from Winton to Mt Isa is still clear. The colour palette changes from dusty ochres and flat plains to huge red cliffs and dark green vegetation. Twas a wonderful experience.
